A group of Rakhine expelled from the persecution of King Barma came to Rangabali Island in 174 and settled there. From this time onwards, the area gradually turned into a village. During the war of liberation in 1971, three Pak soldiers were killed in a clash between the Pak army and the freedom fighters at Panpatti village. On 6 May, the Pak army attacked Chiknikandi and Dakua villages, killing 29 villagers and setting many houses on fire.
